About Us
The allergy-free apartment is owned by Brit Jonathan and Canadian Catherine and their two little boys. Jonathan has adult-onset asthma and Catherine has become increasingly sensitive to the chemicals in our environment. Their younger son also suffers from asthma and is prone to eczema (which has now cleared up due to removal of various toxins including chlorine.) Their older son has learning disabilities which are being improved through biomedical treatment. A large part of this treatment requires his environment to be completely toxin-free.
When we go on holiday, we can only stay in self-catering accommodation so we can cook our sons' meals and have some control over the environment. We found that we were bringing our own sheets, pillows, towels, laundry soap, dish soap, cleaning soap, pots, water filter, vacuum, etc.! We could only stay in apartments without carpets. The first thing we do on arrival is remove any air fresheners. Then we change the sheets to the ones we brought from home. We open all the windows to try to air out any synthetic odours. It’s a real hassle! We realised that we were probably not the only ones in this situation. When the long-term tenants in our rental flat moved out, we decided that we would convert it into the UK’s first toxic-free holiday let in the hope of helping others in our situation.
