Allergy-Free & Multiple Chemical Sensitivity Information
Floors: The apartment has laminate wood flooring throughout which were done approximately 10 years ago so there is no remaining off-gassing. There is linoleum (a natural product) in the kitchen which has been there for some time (still looks good!). There are no rugs in the apartment so as not to trap dust.
Linen: All the bedding and towels are organic unbleached cotton. The linen is washed in Ecover laundry detergent which has no artificial fragrance. The pillows and duvet are allergy-free. The mattress and pillows are covered with an organic, unbleached dust-mite cover.
Cleaning Products: The apartment is only cleaned with ecological, Method or natural cleaning products such as vinegar and baking soda and nothing with artificial fragrance is used in the apartment. Ecover products are available for use in the flat.
Animals: Due to the allergy-free nature of the apartment, no animals are allowed.
Smoking: No smoking is allowed on the premises.
EMF: We have rented an electromagnetic field monitor and can confirm that there are no ‘hotspots’ in the apartment.
Vaccuum: The apartment has a Dyson DC18 allergy vacuum with HEPA filter.
Water: There is a whole house water filter installed (Pozzani). There is also an additional chlorine filter on the bathtub.
Soft Furnishings: In the living/dining room, there are leather sofas which are three years old.
Pots: We supply stainless steel pots and pans to cook with. We also supply glass storage containers, glass roasting containers and glass casserole dishes.
Lighting: All light bulbs are incandescent. We do not use long-life bulbs as their mercury content makes them dangerous in case of breakage and for disposal.
Plastic: We have attempted to reduce the amount of plastic in the flat to a minimum and have tried to use a substitute where available.
Plants: There are peace lilies in each bedroom and in the living/dining room. These plants are excellent all-round air cleaners.
Garden: No chemical weed killers, pesticides, herbicides, insecticides or fungicides have been used in the garden (so you will find the odd weed!)
Mattresses: The mattresses are NOT organic. As this is a new venture, we are unsure if there is a viable market and could not afford to buy these as they are very expensive. If we find there is a market for this type of holiday let, we will certainly replace the current mattresses with organic ones in due course. The current mattresses are very comfortable and each has an organic, unbleached dust-mite cover which fully encases the mattress
Personal Products: Due to the allergy-free nature of the apartment, we kindly request that guests do not wear strong smelling perfumes or aftershaves inside the apartment.
